One of the most buzzed about films at the 2014 Cannes Film Festival was Xavier Dolan’s Mommy. At only 25 years of age, Xavier Dolan shared one of the fest’s most prestigious awards, the Jury Prize, with none other than Jean Luc-Godard. The film will be disputed in Canada this September by eOne.
Here’s the official synopsis:
A widowed single mother, raising her violent son alone, finds new hope when a mysterious neighbour, a woman, inserts herself into the mother and son’s household, providing the mother with needed support.
This isn’t the first film of Xavier Dolan’s to be highly regarded. The US is still awaiting distribution of his previous film, Tom at the Farm, that premiered in September 2013 at the Venice Film Festival. Certainly the greater overall knowledge should bring Mommy stateside, in a matter of when not if. The trailer shows off the unique aspect ratio Dolan used for the film, as well as showcasing some of the drama we can expect from the film. Mommy stars Anne Dorval, Suzanne Clément and Antoine-Olivier Pilon.
Mommy opens in Canada, specifically Quebec, on September 19th. No US date has been announced thus far.

i think there should be a two-minute time limit on movie trailers.
