Originally sporting a far more intriguing title (The Necessary Death of Charlie Countryman), the first trailer for Shia LaBeouf as Charlie Countryman has arrived. Fredrik Bond’s directorial debut showcases LaBeouf bringing his talents far outside the mainstream Hollywood fare he has previously been involved with.
Charlie Countryman takes a trip to Bucharest and finds love within the eyes of the beautiful Gabi (Evan Rachel Wood). That would be fine and dandy, if only Gabi mentioned that she was married. Her husband goes by the name Nigel (Mads Mikkelsen), who just so happens to be a violent crime boss, who doesn’t take too kindly to Charlie romancing his wife.
Along with the multitude of violent ways that LaBeouf is shown being thrown around, the trailer certainly shows enough bizarre and strange situations to earn its NSFW sticker. Whether it is an eye looking up from the urinal or LaBeouf being suffocated and beaten, there’s plenty here that feels uncomfortable. All that said, it looks like a unconventional thriller love story that might just hit the spot for those looking for something a little unique.
Charlie Countryman will be opening in select theaters this month and will also be on VOD starting November 15th, 2013.
