It looks like David Gordon Green and Nicolas Cage are going for some serious, critical acclaim with the film Joe. Word out of Venice and Toronto is that Cage’s performance is a return to his career best, as well as a return to better work for Green after Your Highness.
Green’s latest is about ex-con Joe Ransom (Nicolas Cage), who stumbles into being a role model for Gary (Tye Sheridan), a 15-year-old boy who is forced to be the leader of his family when his father (Joseph Ruskin) spirals into abuse and alcoholism. Joe is a little more serious than what Green has been churning out lately, but after hearing about Cage’s resurgence and Tye Sheridan continuing to turn in great work after Mud, Joe just shot up my list of films I have to see in 2014.
Joe hits theaters April 11th.
