Disney has decided to release new footage of their upcoming superhero animated film, Big Hero 6, without the fanfare of Comic-Con. The first trailer released for the film was more of a short based in the world and gave a small glimpse into the characters. While this new trailer doesn’t give us a complete overview of the plot, its a lot easier to piece together.
For those who are unfamiliar with the origins of Big Hero 6, it actually is an adaptation of a Marvel comic. Here’s the official summary:
With all the heart and humor audiences expect from Walt Disney Animation Studios, ‘Big Hero 6′ is an action-packed comedy-adventure about robotics prodigy Hiro Hamada, who learns to harness his genius—thanks to his brilliant brother Tadashi and their like-minded friends: adrenaline junkie Go Go Tomago, neatnik Wasabi, chemistry whiz Honey Lemon and fanboy Fred. When a devastating turn of events catapults them into the midst of a dangerous plot unfolding in the streets of San Fransokyo, Hiro turns to his closest companion — a robot named Baymax — and transforms the group into a band of high-tech heroes determined to solve the mystery.
Disney is really playing up the character of Baymax in the trailers released thus far. Hopefully the robot is more than a cheap ploy for comedic moments. We also get glimpses of Hiro’s fellow Big Hero 6 teammates Fred, Wasabi, Honey Lemon and Go Go Tamago. The first animated collaboration between Disney and Marvel is looking like it will be a good time, but here’s hoping the next footage will bring the plot together. When the schedule for SDCC was released recently it was surprising that Disney and Marvel were going to pass on showing new Big Hero 6 footage. Perhaps they believed their marketing dollars were spent better bringing the film to a larger awareness.
Big Hero 6′s cast includes T.J. Miller, Maya Rudolph, Jamie Chung, Damon Wayans Jr., Genesis Rodriguez, and James Cromwell. It’s set to open in 3D on November 7th.
