Hello everyone, my name is Kyle Turner, Chief Editor of Movie Mezzanine’s The Balcony, and welcome to Film Critic of the Week, a weekly podcast where we pick the brains of our favorite film critics.
Today, we have the incredible Marya E. Gates, creator of the blog Cinema Fanatic as well as the very popular Tumblr blog The Poor Dancing Girl She Won’t Dance Again, she posts video reviews on her YouTube Channel Coffee and Movies, and she’s contributed Yet Another Magazine. This year, she has embarked on the adventure of making 2015 the year where she watches films directed and written by women, which has garnered attention from places like The Guardian and the podcast Pulling It Together with Amanda Savage, and contributed to IndieWire writing about women and the film industry. She’s also one of the people who was my personal gateway to the online film community. Today, we talked about her project, A Year with Women, Adventureland, women and the film industry, the Oscars, and dicks.
Our show is produced by Kyle Turner. Our swinging music is “Two Cigarettes Please” by Esther Garcia and licensed under a Creative Commons Attribution Noncommercial Share Alike license, which means that Film Critic of the Week is, too.
