The American Film Institute has announced their choices for the best in Film and Television for 2013. 12 Years A Slave, Gravity, and Her continue their dominance in the inclusion on best of lists. Surprisingly neither Dallas Buyers Club or The Butler made the top ten list, suggesting that perhaps those films were quite as strong as believed. The AFI must haveĀ been one of the few groups to actually see The Wolf of Wall Street before their voting deadline. It should prove interesting where it lands on other critics lists. Last year, the AFI predicted 8 of the 9 Best Picture nominees (Amour was a foreign film and not eligible). How will they fare this year?
As far as the TV shows…They run the gauntlet of what you would expect with Breaking Bad getting a mention as well as Netflix’s titles, House of Cards and Orange is the New Black. Notably, fan favorite The Walking Dead didn’t make the cut.
