Halloween is just a day away and, for choosy movie buffs, picking which character to be is a difficult decision. Fandango amassed some survey data for what the most popular costumes for this year would likely be and the big winners are unsurprisingly featured in blockbusters being released in the upcoming month. Below are Fandango’s findings from its Halloween costume survey. Thor (Chris Hemsworth) and Katniss Everdeen (Jennifer Lawrence) topped the lists for men and women’s costumes respectively.
Top 2013 Movie-Inspired Costumes for Men:
1. Thor (Thor: The Dark World) 21%
2. Superman (Man of Steel) 13%
3. Iron Man (Iron Man 3) 13%
4. Ron Burgundy (Anchorman 2) 11%
5. Irving Zisman (Jackass Presents Bad Grandpa) 9%
Top 2013 Movie-Inspired Costumes for Women:
1. Katniss (The Hunger Games: Catching Fire) 41%
2. Theodora – the Wicked Witch of the West (Oz: The Great and Powerful) 11%
3. Effie Trinket (The Hunger Games: Catching Fire) 10%
4. Daisy Buchanan (The Great Gatsby) 7%
5. Hit-Girl (Kick-Ass 2) 6%
Most of the names mentioned above are from big movies out at theatres now and most of those costumes will require a lot of time, effort and money. Those looking for something a little more original, or just short of cash, will have to look elsewhere for their costume. For them, here are a few alternatives for tomorrow’s festivities:
Emma (Blue is the Warmest Color) – This costume doesn’t require much, just some blue hair dye and maybe a quick trim. Should you choose to affect a French accent, all the more power to you.
H.I. McDonough (Raising Arizona) – Comb you hair every which way (or not at all), wife-beater and old jeans. Extra points if you grab a package of Huggies.
Tony Stark (Iron Man 3) – No suit of armor is necessary, but a pin-stripe one will do. Managing the marquee goatee will be a little more difficult, but easier than recreating the Mach VI armor.
Jasmine (Blue Jasmine) – A pant suit, a glass of Stoli Vodka and an empty prescription bottle is all you’ll need to capture the fractured psyche of Cate Blanchett’s titular character.
Clark Kent (Man of Steel) – Like Tony Stark, going out as an alter ego saves time and money. Pop out the lenses of some old 3D glasses, grab a dress shirt, tie and an old-fashioned sense of journalism and the American way.
Michael Myers (Halloween) – Not the William Shatner mask, grey jump-suited Myers. The Michael Myers attire made up of a bed sheet with eye holes and black-frame glasses.
Alien (Spring Breakers) – The hair will be the longest part of recreating James Franco’s character from, but everything else is fairly easy. If you are looking to go full-out, fill out your ensemble with Faith, Candy, Brit and Cotty.
The World’s End Crawlers – Long jackets, pint glasses, and a little blue ink is all you will need to recreate the look of Edgar Wright’s end of the world crew.
