The 58th Seminci (Valladolid International Film Festival) came to a close this Sunday. The closing ceremony, as tradition dictates, was once again celebrated at the famous Teatro Calderón, where the following films – among many others – were honored:
Yôji Yamada’s Tokyo Kazoku (Golden Spike), Steph Green’s Run and Jump (Silver Spike), Mar Coll’s Tots volem el millor per a ella (Best Actress for Nora Navas), Papusza (Best Actor for Zbigriew Walerys and Best Director for Joanna Kos-Krauze and Krysztof Krauze), Isabel de Ocampo’s Piratas y Libélulas (Best Documentary) and John Taratuto’s La Reconstrucción (International Critics’ Award – FIPRESCI).
The Awards Ceremony was followed by the screening of Wałęsa. Człowiek z nadziei (Wałęsa.Man of Hope), Andrzej Wajda’s new film. The Polish director was one of the many previously unknown – and now highly acclaimed – directors who were introduced to the Spanish audience during the Seminci thanks to the launch pad offered by Valladolid, that, through various loopholes in state censorship during Francisco Franco’s censorship, was able to present films that would otherwise have been impossible to see in Spain.
