The 46th Sitges International Fantastic Film Festival, the world’s foremost international festival specialized in fantasy and horror films, also came to a close on Sunday with the screening of Ti West’s The Sacrament. The festival was very animated this year as Terry Gilliam and Eli Roth introduced a critical view of new technologies and the festival commemorated the 30th anniversary of Star Wars Episode VI: Return of the Jedi among many other events.
The top honors went to Borgman by Alex Van Warmerdam (Best Fantastic Feature Film) while other awards went to Navot Papushado and Aharon Keshales (Best Director for Big Bad Wolves); Juno Temple (Best Actress for Magic Magic); Andy Lau (Best Actor for Blind Detective); Jmes Ward Byrkit (Best Screenplay for Coherence); Afflicted, by Cliff Prowse and Derek Lee (Best Special Effects) and Larry Smith (Best Cinematography for Only God Forgives). Jim Jarmusch’s Only Lovers Left Alive received the Special Jury Award and Frank Pavich’s Jodorwsky’s Dune was awarded the Special Jury Mention.
