Dear Readers,
Over the past eight months, it has become startlingly clear that in order to become a paying publication, one has to cover the news. It’s an unfortunate reality that we can longer choose to idealistically neglect.
More importantly, it has come to my attention that the writers who produce such quality material for this site deserve to be compensated for their diligent work. If you look through our About Us page, you’ll notice that every author opining about the movies for us has written for reputable outlets, from the The New York Times to The Atlantic to RogerEbert.com to IndieWire. We’ve never accepted amateurism, and have tried our best to seek out, support, and cultivate talented, wonderful writers. That’s not going to change.
However, within the next two weeks we will begin covering film news. This will merely be a subsection of the site where we will provide the type of critical and thoughtful coverage of the film industry you see on a daily basis from our colleagues at sites like The Dissolve and The A.V. Club. No gossip. No superficiality. No fanboy hyperbole. We know this is easier said than done, but we’re going to attempt to cast a perceptive and humorous light on the daily news that surfaces.
While the news division will be an integral element of Movie Mezzanine, it won’t become Movie Mezzanine. Weekly reviews, monthly directorial retrospectives, inquisitive editorials, and 4,000 word essays will still be as vital and prominent as ever.
If you’re interested in covering the film industry on a day-to-day basis, send us an email with a bio and a few samples of your work. We’re looking to build a manageable staff of skilled, hardworking, and incisive writers eager to make film industry news slightly less insufferable. If you think you have what it takes, drop us a line at moviemezzanine(at)gmail(dot)com.
We look forward to growing and evolving as a publication with this addition to the site. As always, thanks for reading.
Sincerely,
~ Sam Fragoso

Hey, as long as it helps the site going. I welcome film news. Just as long as it’s not dumbass news about some stupid film starring some reality TV star or whatever lame-ass singer that’s out there.
Duly noted.
I want dumbass news, god darn it. Chole, Lindsay and Honey Boo Boo get hits. In fact, I think Sam should be the Honey Boo Boo corespondent.
