Ready Player One was one fine debut from writer Ernest Cline. Mixing elements of a pop-culture into a MMORPG world, Ready Player One was an incredibly satisfying read. The material is ripe for a film adaptation and Warner Bros. Pictures is moving forward with a rewrite from scribe Zak Penn. Zak Penn is best known for his work on The Avengers and The Incredible Hulk.
Ready Player One follows teenager Wade Watts and his adventures in the virtual world known as The Oasis. The Oasis is a perfect world, one where countless people around the world spend much of their days. When the creator of the world dies, he offers up his fortune to whoever can solve an elaborate scavenger hunt within the virtual world. Since its release in 2011, the novel has been hailed as a generally great science-fiction read and has gained even more attention since the acquisition of VR maker Oculus to Facebook earlier this year.
