The fifth edition of the Festival de Cinéma Européen des Arcs came to an end last Saturday. The festival set in the ski resort of Les Arcs in the French Alps ran from 14 to 21 December 2013.
The Jury made up of the French actress Nicole Garcia (president), the British author Jonathan Coe, the Croatian producer Čedomir Kolar, the English DP Larry Smith, the French composer Éric Neveux and the French actresses Anna Mouglalis and Anaïs Demoustier awarded the Golden Arrow for Best Film to Pawel Pawlikowski’s Ida. The Jury Grand Prix went to Benedikt Erlingsson’s Of Horses and Men and the Special Mention to Iram Haq’s I am Yours. Ida’s Agata Kulesza and Agata Trzebuchowska were voted Best Actresses while the Brit Jack O’Connell received the Best Actor Award for his performance in David Mackenzie’s Starred Up. The Jury also gave the Best Music Award to David Thor Jonsson for his work on Of Horses and Men and the Best Photography Award to Pau Esteve Birba for his work on Manuel Martín Cuenca’s Cannibal while the Young Jury gave Janos Szasz’s The Notebook the Best Film Award.
The Audience Award went to Starred Up; the Cineuropa Award to Rok Bicek’s Class Enemy and last but not least, the Press Award to Lukas Moodysson’s We Are the Best! while the Special Mention went to Starred Up – again.
