Talking about a vast change in direction. Michel Hazanavicius will have his new feature film, The Search, premier at the Cannes Film Festival in a few short days. If you can remember Hazanavicius won an Oscar for his film The Artist that had plenty of nifty laughs. Well it seems he has moved on from those delightful days with his new feature. The Search sees director Michel Hazanavicius reunite with Berenice Bejo for a war film during the second Cechen War. Annette Bening is also cast in this one, but its really a story from a child’s point-of-view.
Critics will certainly be looking to see if Hazanavicius can create another Oscar nominee. The material is perfect for a Oscar type film, with a young child who joins a group of refugees after the death of his parents. The trailer has subtitles, but most of it is thankfully in English. We won’t have to wait long before discovering if this film is another winner.
