¡Hola everybody! Mañana, the Gijón International Film Festival (Festival Internacional de Cine de Xixón) enters its fifth decade as it will open in the city of Gijón in the northwest of Spain. The 51st FICXixón will run from 15 to 23 November 2013.
The festival was founded in 1963 as the International Children’s Cinema and TV contest (Certamen Internacional de Cine y TV Infantil) but the name officially changed to the one it bears today in 1988.
The lineup of this year’s Official Competition program is made up of some films with an already strong presence at the festival circuit such as Grigris by Mahamat-Saleh Haroun, Floating Skycrapers Tomasz Wasilewski, Little One by Darrell James Roodt, Tirso Calero’s Blockbuster, Thierry de Peretti’s Les Apaches, Henri by Yolande Moreau, Ida by Pawel Pawlikowski, Anthony Chen’s Ilo Ilo, Jeremy Saulnier’s Blue Ruin, The Past by Asghar Farhadi, The Amazing Cat Fish by Claudia Sainte-Luce, Claudia Pinto Emperador’s La Distancia Más Larga, Les Garçons et Guillaume, à Table! by Guillaume Gallienne, Gabrielle by Louise Archambault, A Promise by Patrice Leconte, Nicole Holofcener’s Enough Said.
The jury is composed up of the French director Patrice Leconte, the Spanish actress Aida Folch, the Mexican filmmaker Iván Trujillo, the Spanish writer and director Ray Loriga and the Argentinian director Pablo Giorgelli.
Apart from the Official selection, the festival also offers many others such as the Official Shorts section, Enfants Terribles, AnimaFiCX, Géneros Mutantes, Gran Angular, Límites, FICXLab, Día d’Asturies and will pay tribute to Hong Sang-soo and Jean-François Laguionie and will showcase a series of New European feminine cinema in the section Ciclo de Cine Europeo en Ruta: Nuevas Voces del Cine Feminino Europeo.
