The 24th Ljubljana International Film Festival commenced yesterday with a one-person comedy by Lado Bizovičar who played with various movie genres by playing different roles. György Pálfi’s last masterpiece, Final Cut: Ladies and Gentlemen was premiered yesterday evening in the Linhart Hall. The festival will come to a close on 17 November 2013.
The Ljubljana International Film Festival, also known as LIFFe was established in 1990 and is held annually the capital of Slovenia. Apart from screening national films, it also showcases films in international independent programs and short films competition programs and features retrospectives of renowned authors. The Perspectives program is the official competition program that screens works of new directors competing for the Kingfisher Award; the Avant-premieres section shows the world’s finest films that are purchased for Slovenian distribution; in the Kings and Queens program, the festival screens films by notable and award-winning maestros of contemporary cinema; the World Film Panorama features front-runners of five-continent festivals; Extravaganza is the name of the section reserved for the so-called late-night cinema of daring idiosyncratic artists addressing sensual topics; today’s young and daring filmmaking is showcased in the Theme Retrospective while this year’s Focus is the New Austrian cinema and a Tribute is paid to the Croation director Lordan Zafranović. Also, an overview of experimental cinema is presented in Kino-integral and last but not least, Europe in Short is, obviously, the official short film competition program.
