Today sees the release of the trailer for a film I’ve very much looking forward to: Birdman from Alejandro González Iñárritu. The film follows a washed-up actor (Michael Keaton) who once played an iconic superhero “Birdman” as he tries to mount a comeback on Broadway to reclaim his glory.
I’m a big admirer of Iñárittu’s films, and it will be interesting to see him try his hand at this surreal comedy as his films usually deal with immensely heavy dramatic material. Add in one of the most brilliant bits of casting in recent memory with Michael Keaton as the actor who used to be a superhero, and this easily climbs to the top of my most anticipated of this year. Keaton has been on a roll lately, with hilarious turns in The Other Guys and Toy Story 3 while this year adding some enjoyable sleaze to RoboCop and Need For Speed. This is the type of role I’ve always wanted to see Keaton play, I just didn’t realize it until now.
Birdman will be released on Oct. 17th, 2014. The film costars Emma Stone, Edward Norton, Amy Ryan, Naomi Watts, Zach Galifianakis and Andrea Riseborough. Check out the poster and trailer below:
