I’d be lying if I said that I haven’t fantasized about living in a movie like this at some point in my childhood (or 2 days ago). With that said, the trailer for Matthew Vaughn’s Kingsman: The Secret Service hit all the right notes for me. Rugged street-smart young hero? Check. Colin Firth as a pseudo-Bond? Check. Michael Caine as a pseudo-M? Check. Samuel L. Jackson with a lisp? Check and mate.
Based on the comic book by Mark Millar, the plot follows a veteran secret agent (Firth) as he takes a young delinquent (Taron Egerton) from the London streets and enrolls him in an academy that trains it’s pupils to be 007-type secret agents. This looks to be a ripe combination of the flashy narrative and visuals of Vaughn’s Layer Cake combined with the larger scope of Vaughn’s more recent superhero efforts like Kick-Ass and X-Men: First Class. Take that and combine it with the stellar cast he’s got for this film, I’m marking down my calendar for the midnight release of this film.
Kingsman: The Secret Service comes out on October 24th. The film is written by Matthew Vaughn and Jane Goldman, and directed by Vaughn. It stars Taron Egerton, Colin Firth, Michael Caine, Mark Strong and Samuel L. Jackson. Check out the trailer & poster below.
