Fresh off nailing a spot at this year’s Cannes, a new trailer and two new posters for David Michôd’s The Rover has hit the web. Set in the post apocalypse, the film finds loner Eric(Guy Pearce) wandering through collapsed society. A gang steals his car but leaves behind a wounded member in Rey(Robert Pattinson). Eric forces Rey to lead him to where his brother’s gang is now in order to take back the only thing that still matters to him.
I wrote just earlier this week about how much I’m looking forward to what Michôd does with this film among my most anticipated of this year. Animal Kingdom was a stellar debut from him remaining among my favorite films this decade. It’s great that he has re-teamed with one of the film’s stars, Guy Pearce, whose performance in Animal Kingdom was among his finest work. The Rover appears to have the same gritty atmosphere as Michôd’s debut, but now he is applying his visceral lens to a story with tinges of both western and apocalypse genre within.
Written and Directed by David Michôd from a story he conceived with Joel Edgerton, the film stars Guy Pearce, Robert Pattinson and Scoot McNairy and will see a limited release stateside on June 13th before going nationwide June 20th. Check out the trailer and posters below:
