If there is one man who can lay claim to box-office supremacy this summer, that would be Michael Bay. His latest directorial effort, Transformers: Age of Extinction, has brought in over $1 billion worldwide. Add in the success as the producer of this weekend’s number one film, Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, and its easy to see who has had the best summer ever. Well with all this money, Michael Bay has said that he is done with directing Transformers films. Again.
In a newly published interview with USA Today, Bay says “There’s kind of a new chapter, a new direction in movies I want to make. I have a lot of stories to tell. And it’s about flexing new muscles.” So at 49 years of age, Bay has finally had enough of Optimus Prime. The article also expresses his intentions to direct a documentary on elephant poaching of all things.
Going back a few years, Bay was actually quoted saying Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen would be his last foray into the giant robots. Unfortunately, we couldn’t be that lucky. As long as Paramount has the most successful movie in the world, they probably won’t let Bay walk away easily. With or without Bay, Transformers 5 is already on the way.
