Overeducated and underemployed, 28-year-old Megan (Keira Knightley) is in the throes of what could be called a quarterlife crisis. Well into adulthood and with no hope of a career in sight, no one to relate to, and no motivation, Megan is comfortable lagging a few steps behind while her friends check off milestones and celebrate their new grown-up status. When her high-school sweetheart (Mark Webber) proposes, Megan panics and- given an unexpected opportunity to escape for a week – hides out in the home of her new friend, 16-year old Annika (ChloĆ« Grace Moretz) and Annika’s single dad Craig (Sam Rockwell).
Keira Knightley is best known for playing dynamic females in period pieces, it shall be interesting to see her take on playing a perpetual adolescent who lies to her fiancee about going on a retreat and instead spends the time hanging out with her friends instead. One of the preeminent voice of the mumblecore scene, Lynn Shelton has never had an A-list cast like this to work with in her past projects (Humpday). Watching these talented principals take on Shelton’s improv-based material shall be a pleasure in the midst of awards seasons and the glut of horror films in late October.
Laggies hits theatres October 24th.
