James Wan is getting busy. He’s got the next installment of the Fast & Furious franchise in Fast & Furious 7 coming out next year, and although he had previously talked about “graduating” from the horror genre after Insidious: Chapter 2 he has thankfully signed on to return to direct the sequel to his instant horror classic The Conjuring, which will be due out in 2016 sometime.
For me personally, Wan has been one of the more consistent and exciting voices in the horror genre, so I’m very happy he’ll be returning to it for The Conjuring 2. The first film was honestly one of the scariest films I’ve seen, and to put it politely, his absence from the spinoff prequel Annabelle was definitely felt. I’m very excited for his Fast & Furious film, and the report from Collider suggests he may direct future installments of that franchise as well. They also mention he may beĀ in the mix for one of DC’s Justice League universe films, though which one remains unknown. Regardless, seeing Wan tackle the superhero genre would be a refreshing take to see. No release date has been announced for The Conjuring 2 other then it will come out in 2016 and stars Patrick Wilson and Vera Farmiga will return. The original was released in July so it could return to that Summer spot or hold out for an October release. But whenever this film comes out, it’s a certainty that I won’t sleep the week after seeing it.
