Focus Features has released the first look at Zach Braff’s long-awaited followup to Garden State. Wish I Was Here revolves around a struggling actor who is a father and husband(Zach Braff), trying to figure out his life and deal with the impending death of his father(Mandy Patinkin).
The film is written, directed by and starring Zach Braff. Mandy Patinkin, Kate Hudson, Pierce Gagnon, Josh Gad and Donald Faison fill out an intriguing cast. Focus Features will release the film on July 18th in limited release.
The trailer is more of a music video than any sort of indication that there is an entire movie behind it, but it does feature some striking imagery. The controversy behind Braff’s use of Kickstarter to fund the film and the denying of donors into screenings, and what crowd-funding means for the current state of filmmaking is almost enough to get most people to see this film if only to see how the outcome of this social experiment is.
