Jeremy Saulnier’s Blue Ruin is one of my favorite films of this year, so naturally I’m very eager to see his followup. His next film, Green Room, follows a group of young punk rockers who find themselves fighting for their lives in a secluded venue against a group of white power skinheads after they witness an act of brutal violence by the skinheads. The leader of the skinheads? None other than Patrick Stewart.
The logline harks back to low-budget genre fare of the 70s and 80s, and calls to mind John Carpenter’s Assault on Precinct 13. After watching Saulnier deconstruct and reinvent many tropes of the revenge thriller in Blue Ruin, I’m eager to see him deliver a similar treatment to the material in this film. Plus, who doesn’t want to see Patrick Stewart play the leader of a skinhead gang? Check out the photo below, and hopefully we’ll see Green Room sometime next year (Maybe Sundance? Please?). The film stars Patrick Stewart, Anton Yelchin, Imogen Poots, Mark Webber and Blue Ruin star Macon Blair.
