Check out Michael Fassbender in the papier mâché head! The musical-comedy Frank has released its first trailer and it lives up to expectations of being a little off-center. Directed by Lenny Abrahamson and starring Maggie Gyllenhaal and Domhnall Gleeson, Frank is a heavily fictionalized look into the life and times of Frank Sidebottom. Just like Sidebottom, Michael Fassbender never takes off his mask and fronts his own cult band called Soronprfbs. When the band gets invited to SXSW, Frank’s ego might be overcoming the band.
Domhnall Gleeson plays Jon in the film, a keyboard player who has just joined Soronprfbs. It’s from his point-of-view that the weird adventures of Frank are depicted. Early thoughts on Frank have been positive and it should provide a unique performance from Michael Fassbender who continues to impress.
Frank premiered in January at the Sundance Film Festival and just had its premier at SXSW where some of the film takes place. Magnolia Pictures has not yet set a release date.
