I don’t know if I’ll ever be ready to see this film. It’s predecessor The Conjuring is one of the few horror films that really made it difficult for me to sleep the week after I watched it, and in no small part because of that terrifying doll. Just in the intro of the film, James Wan crafted one of the most terrifying on-screen dolls ever known.
There’s not much we know about the plot of this prequel/spinoff of The Conjuring, and for now I’m happy about that. Just knowing that it’s about the origins of that terrifying doll is enough for me. It’s uncertain if this film can retain the terror of the doll that Wan managed to pack into a subplot for an entire film, but I’m intrigued nonetheless. This trailer goes a long way to provide some good faith in this film, as it seems to retain a lot of the naturalized tension and comfort in the pacing of building and earning a scare like The Conjuring did (no doubt because The Conjuring‘s DP John R. Leonetti is directing). Whether or not this film is good or bad, one thing is for sure – if it’s even 1/86th as scary as The Conjuring, I won’t sleep the night I watch it.
Annabelle comes out Oct.3rd, 2014 and stars Annabelle (hehehe) Wallis, Ward Horton and Alfre Woodard. Watch the trailer below and have nightmares with me.
