Tom Hardy has been a busy man in 2014. After captivating audiences on the bigscreen in Locke, his forthcoming drama The Drop hits theatres in September and he is currently finishing three more films in post-production. Not quite feeling his plate is full enough, Hardy is in negotiations to join former Inception co-star Leonardo DiCaprio in The Revenant.
Adapted from the Michael Punke novel, The Revenant tells the tale of an 1820s fur trapper (Leonardo DiCaprio) who is mauled by a grizzly bear. Left for dead and robbed by his cohorts, but survives against all odds and vows to get back at the men who ditched him. Nothing is set in stone yet, but rumor has it that Hardy would be signing up for the villain role departed by Sean Penn.
The Revenant has been through several combinations of director/lead actors in the last several years. The Proposition Director John Hillcoat and Christian Bale were attached to the project before giving way to Chan-wook Park and Samuel L. Jackson. Current helmer Alejandro Gonzalez Iñárritu took over in 2011, but The Revenant got put on hold for him to finish the upcoming Birdman. With that film completed, he can finally get The Revenant off the ground.
